Valencia 4/7

Yesterday was the 4th of July! It was a day for us to be the obnoxious Americans – that we always try not to be – in España. So we did the typical American things…

We all wore the typical Red, White, and Blue colors.

We ate dinner at a restaurant called Foster’s Hollywood American Restaurant. It wasn’t like a small group of us either. Almost our entire ISA group went (around 50 people). And everyone had the typical American Cheeseburger with French Fries and real AMERICAN KETCHUP. The Ketchup in Spain is a little different than the Ketchup from home. The Ketchup in Spain has a little more vinegar in it… So it was very nice to have a typical American meal. We also were able to get free refills with certain soft drinks.

There were SO many of us!

Our typical AMERICAN food!

And we even sang some American songs… The difficult part was figuring out the bill at the end… In España, they don’t do separate checks. With 10 people sitting at one table, this made organizing the money a little difficult.

Our bill... So confusing.

And no 4th of July is ever complete without a U-S-A chant.

4th of July Success = Obnoxious Americans in Spain.

Things to Note:
1.    Free refills in Spain are never usually an option for soft drinks or any drink for that matter. So when you find a place that does advertise free refills, definitely take advantage of the situation.
2.    In Spain, there are never separate checks. It’s considered rude, so usually one person pays the bill for the entire table. But we’re not from Spain, and we each have our own money. Too bad none of us are Math Majors…
